2008 Honorees
Dorothy Herman
Dorothy Herman is the CEO and President of one of the country’s largest & most well known residential real estate companies, Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate. In recognition of her leadership in the industry, Dottie has been named as one of the most influential women in NY for 2007 by Crain’s NY Business. She is a long time supporter of the Sunrise Fund and the Stony Brook University Medical Center. It is with great honor we recognize Dottie Herman. Her dedication to the children with cancer is gratefully acknowledged and appreciated.
Priscilla Swezey Knapp Teich
Priscilla Swezey Knapp Teich well known for her service as Vice President of Swezey’s Department Stores and President of the Knapp/Swezey Foundation, has had a lifelong devotion to public causes. She is an active community member in the Town of Brookhaven and a long time supporter of the Sunrise Fund since its inception. She has been a advocate of childhood cancer awareness and the needs of the children/young adults battling this disease. It is with great honor to present this award to such a humble
and compassionate supporter of the Sunrise Fund.
Mr. William Gommo
William Gommo is the grandfather of Meaghan Brosnan, a young lady treated for leukemia at Stony Brook University Medical Center who is now in college. He was devastated when Meaghan was diagnosed and chose to become well versed in childhood cancer and replace his grief with optimism. He believed in the hospital, the pediatric hematology oncology team and its supportive services. A very compassionate man, Mr. Gommo decided to assist in the financial support of the Sunrise Fund to expand its programs and made a point to tithe every year, for seven years until he passed away in 2007. It is with great honor to present this award to Mr. Gommo’s family in recognition of his dedication to the Sunrise Fund.
