Sunrise Fund - A New Day for Children with Cancer Calendar
12/17/10 —The full color 2011 Sunrise Fund Calendar is officially available! For a donation of $20 (or more) you will be helping children fighting cancer right here on Long Island. Your donation is also tax deductible. To order a calendar, please call (631) 444-2899 during normal business hours.
You may donate by credit card or by check and your calendar will be mailed to you. Our last calendar sold out quickly so please don't delay and help these precious children.

03/21/09 — Sunrise Fund sponsored the HLA Typing for 15-year-old boy who has a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. The Bone Marrow Drive will be done at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

03/21/09 — Longwood High School sophomore Alex Mele has set his goals for June: He will be well, having eluded the grasp of the leukemia that has taken over his life since November, and he will be well enough to suit up and play for the Brentwood Bandits, his summer baseball league. More>
Splashes of Hope
12/18/08 — The doctors, nurses, and staff of Stony Brook University Cancer Center, along pediatric cancer patients and their families, celebrated the unveiling of colorful sea-themed murals that decorate the walls and ceilings of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Unit. Provided by the organization "Splashes of Hope," the paintings are placed in clinical exam rooms, chemotherapy infusion areas, and in the waiting area. More >

The Care of My Child with Cancer: Parents' Perceptions of Caregiving Demands
Journal of Pediatric Oncology Nursing, Vol. 19, No. 6, 218-228 (2002) — Parents are actively involved in the direct care of their ill child receiving cancer treatment by providing and monitoring therapy and by managing symptoms related to the therapy or to the disease itself. Little is known about parents' perception of what helps or hinders them with their caregiving responsibilities or what effect the caregiving role has on the parent. In this descriptive, exploratory study, 151 parents responded to one or more of six open-ended questions that were part of the newly developed instrument, Care of My Child with Cancer. The 1,280 responses were analyzed using a semantic content analysis technique. More >
