Dean Craig Lehmann selected as new campus leader
for Habitat for Humanity!

President Shirley Strum Kenny has designated Dean Lehmann as the new leader of the Stony Brook University Habitat for Humanity campaign effort in 2006.

Lehmann has worked diligently on the campaign for the past four years both in fund raising efforts and construction of the homes.  Concurrent with this new role, he has accepted a voluntary position on the Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk’s Board of Directors, where he will participate in the family selection process as well as other board activities.

At the December 2005 dedication of the 2005 Stony Brook house, Lehmann, dressed as Santa Claus, presented house keys to the partner family, bringing enormous smiles to the faces of the four young children, and leaving the parents speechless. The family was able to move into their new home later that day, making this a Christmas to remember.

The 2006 campaign promises to be even more exciting than those in previous years.  Our energies will be focused on two major fund-raising events:  a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for a family of five, which includes round trip airfare, ground transportation, hotel accommodations and theme park admission.  Tickets for the Disney prize are $10 each and available through the SHTM Dean’s Office until April 27, 2006.  We are pleased to also announce that our fourth annual golf outing to benefit Habitat for Humanity will once again be held at Mill Pond Golf Course in Medford, NY, on June 8, 2006. If you have not had the opportunity to participate in the Habitat for Humanity efforts in the past, we hope you will do so this year.  Of course, your monetary contributions are always welcome, but participation in the building process, and then joining the family at the dedication, rewards you in unimaginable ways.  There is nothing quite comparable to the feelings you experience when you work side by side with the homeowners to make their dreams a reality.
