Alumni Wall is an idea that sprang from discussions at board meetings on how best to instill the students with pride in their Stony Brook connection. What would be better than for current students to see photos of alumni on a daily basis? Students would see their alumni predecessors (of whom many are faculty) and know that soon they too will soon become part of the School’s history when their class photo is added to the collection.
Dean Barry R. Rifkin embraced the idea and class photos were collected, matted and framed. The alumni board felt that in addition to the visual connection something more binding and tangible was needed. That is when the idea of an alumni scholarship fund was raised. The alumni board in a generous move voted to create an alumni scholarship fund in recognition and celebration of their education at Stony Brook. To show their support and to lead by example, each board member is donating $1,000 to the alumni scholarship fund. This is their way of showing the value they place on their education, the chapter and the students. They will be the first members of the ‘Founders Club’. A Founders Club plaque listing their names, and future $1,000 donors to the alumni scholarship fund, will be placed near the Alumni Wall further strengthening the connection between alumni and the future alumni currently enrolled at the School of Dental Medicine..
The public presentation of Alumni Wall will take place on Friday, September 8, 2006 at 4:00 PM at the School. Please join us as we unveil a piece of alumni history and create a new tradition strengthening the connection between students and alumni. If you plan on attending, please RSVP to Ms. Josephine Levan (631/632-8807 or jlevan@sunysb.edu) no later then September 1, 2006.)
