Minority Student Dental Association

Mission Statement

Last Updated:01/08/08
The lack of a structured mechanism to promote contact between minority dentists and students of dentistry is the major impetus to form the MSDA. We aim to address those issues important to minority dental students.
Minority populations in America are growing faster than any other population group. However, this growth has not been witnessed in the number of health professionals in this country, including dental and medical students and faculty.
A large part of our mission is to manage “The Reach”, a program to increase the recruitment of underrepresented applicants to the dental profession. We are interested in both directly promoting the health and well-being of the minority community as well as in helping all health care workers who work with these communities understand how to care for minority patients in a culturally sensitive manner. Finally, MSDA provides an important forum for dental students to meet, exchange information and experiences and develop personally and professionally.
