Here at Stony Brook Dental we offer a curriculum that is on the cutting edge of the field with highly experienced faculty and a modern facility.  The tuition is affordable and many scholarships and grants are available as well as financial aid packages tailored to your needs.  Dentistry can be a career path for you that can satisfy your desire to achieve personal greatness while contributing to the health of your community.

Financial Aid

Financial aid for School of Dental Medicine students is divided into three basic categories: grants, loans, and employment opportunities.  Grants, which include scholarships, do not have to be repaid; loans carry some form of interest payment and must be paid back to the lender; employment opportunities afford the student the chance to earn money while attending school.

Other Options

Other options may include participation in military service in exchange for financial support, governmental agencies, and private organizational funding.  Some of the options and their respective websites are listed below:

 United States Navy: http://www.navy.com/

At least 91% of dental students graduate with debt—owing an average of more than $115,000. When you take out a loan, you are assuming a serious financial commitment and it is important to determine how you can manage your educational debt. When borrowing money, the best advice is generally: borrow the absolute minimum that you need. The more you borrow today, the more your future earnings will be needed to replay the loan. Carefully constructing an annual school budget will help you manage your debt. Read more in Financial Planning Issues for Dental Students.

The ADA Foundation has a scholarship program for students pursuing careers in dentistry, dental hygiene, dental assisting and dental laboratory technology. The number of ADA Foundation scholarships awarded is dependent upon available funds. Scholarships are awarded to defray school expenses, which include tuition, fees, books, supplies and living expenses. Scholarship disbursements are made twice yearly in equal payments and sent directly to the student's financial aid office. The second disbursement is made contingent upon the student's maintenance of the required grade point average. ADA Foundation scholarship programs include Dental Student Scholarship, Minority Dental Student Scholarship, Dental Hygiene Scholarship, Dental Laboratory Technology Scholarship and Dental Assisting Scholarship.
