The Major Modernization Project
August 2008

The Major Modernization Project Phase I is nearing completion.  We are scheduled for, the first of two, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) site visits in July.  Standard within the health care industry, the NYSDOH reviews all aspects of the construction project for accordance with safety and architectural code compliance.  The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony have been set for September 4th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  Here all employees and the public will have the opportunity to tour the new areas.  With enthusiasm, we are well on our way to opening a modern and beautiful new addition to Stony Brook University Medical Center. The Project Office has provided the following progress photos:

Permanent New Entrance Walkway Opens Monday, August 4

Beginning this Monday, August 4, pedestrians will use a new walkway to enter the Hospital after parking in the garage.

The new permanent covered walkway leads pedestrians from the Hospital garage to the new large glass Hospital entry doors, and into the new lobby. The new lobby will be fully unveiled in the near future. The new walkway provides a route more direct than the temporary one, which will be closed and dismantled.

As Phase 1 of the Major Modernization transitions from new construction to renovation (Phase II), Stony Brook will introduce a new impressive lobby, ten progressive ORs, private post- and antepartum bed and associated nurseries, and the first of a two-part reveal of our expanded ED.

If you have any questions about the new entrance walkway, please call 4-6735 or 4-6736 and someone from the Project Office will get back to you promptly.
