Athletic Training Program

Alumni Perspectives

Nadege Casseus, ATC

Class of 2006

I am proud to say that I am an alumna of Stony Brook’s Athletic Training Program, class of 2006. Although the two and a half years spent as an athletic training student were the most challenging of my college career, the success that I have experienced since graduating has made it all worthwhile. Some of the most important principles that were instilled in me through the program not only apply in the athletic training setting but life, in general. Punctuality, organization, professionalism, and diligence were enforced in every class and by all of our teachers and clinical advisors. The program’s curriculum provided me so many opportunities for hands on experiences that I felt prepared to work even before the completion of the curriculum. Immediately following graduation I was hired as a high school Certified Athletic Trainer while obtaining a Master’s degree in Physical Education. I am presently teaching Physical Education and Sports Medicine while working as a Certified Athletic Trainer for my school district. I absolutely love what I do and I know I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for the Athletic Training Program at Stony Brook. What I value most is that I continue to keep in contact with my professors, whether it is for employment opportunities, alumni events or professional advice. I know that they will always be a phone call or email away, and that to me, is priceless.

Class of 2009

After completing the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at Stony Brook I felt more than prepared for my career as a Certified Athletic Trainer. I immediately found a job in a clinic/outreach setting, which I was able to turn into a full time high school position using the skills and confidence I learned at Stony Brook University.  Being a graduate of the ATEP program from Stony Brook I have always felt a step ahead of some of my peers professionally because of the rigorous academic standards Stony Brook upholds. The ATEP program prepared me for the world ahead, both educationally and professionally. We were exposed to a great variety of clinical experiences on and off campus, doctor’s offices, and lots of voluntary learning experiences (5k’s, conferences, teaching high school students, etc.) The professors, ACI’s, ATC’s and other student’s helped guide me into the field that I wanted to be in today. Not only did I receive the best education I possibly could, but for 2 years I grew into a family with my classmates, faculty and staff. That family continues to grow every time I return to Stony Brook.
