Professor Patterson joined the Health Science faculty as a Lecturer in 2004 and as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2008. With integrated experiences in disability services, career services, human resources, labor relations and higher education, her primary expertise lies in the field of disability and employment.

In the late 1980’s, Professor Patterson began working with individuals with disabilities for the historic National Center for Disability Services. She then became involved with higher education as the Director of Career Services and Employment for the Center for Intellectual Capital at Dowling College. Ms. Patterson joined the Stony Brook University community in 1998 as the Assistant to the ADA Coordinator in the Disability Support Services department. Of her accomplishments there, she is most proud of her work designing and facilitating the award-winning Presidential EARN Program, for which she has made local, state and national presentations.

Professor Patterson has earned a master’s degree in Liberal Studies with a focus in Disability and Employment from Stony Brook University. Her bachelor’s degree in English is from Empire State College.
