Spring Coursework
Disability Studies
This concentration provides an interdisciplinary focus of study in areas such as independent living, employment, adults and children with disabilities, and health and community issues. Job opportunities for entry-level professional and managerial positions may be found in developmental or physical disability services agencies, independent living centers, mental health centers, the geriatrics and vocational rehabilitations agencies.

Environmental Health
This concentration explores the concepts and principles of various health issues regarding quality of life, from the air we breathe, the water we drink and play in, the places we work and live in, and anything else that affects our overall well being. Jobs in environmental health can be found in both the public and private sector, ranging from hospitals and other health care facilities to government agencies such as Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, town and community water authorities, and private companies such as airlines (food and air quality safety) and laboratories (water quality and ground contamination).

Health Care Informatics
This concentration prepares students for careers in health care information systems, processing and managing health care data with computer and communication technologies. Emphasis is placed on health care information systems’ architecture, computerized medical data processing and clinical decision support systems. Job opportunities may be found in a wide variety of settings, from hospitals and clinics, to software development vendors, the U.S. government, and health care consulting firms.
Academic Prerequisites: CSE 101, 113, and 114 are strongly recommended.

Health Care Management
This concentration prepares health care managers with the knowledge and skills to manage health care practices and utilize the fundamentals of health care management and administration. Job opportunities may be found in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ practices, nursing homes, insurance organizations, public health departments, consulting firms, and universities.

Pharmacy Technician
This concentration provides the basic foundation relevant to the practices of pharmacy technician, including such service aspects as prescription and order filling, preparation of products, and proper use of equipment in a pharmacy. Job opportunities may be found in retail pharmacies and hospitals.

Public Health/Community Health Education
This concentration provides a basic foundation in public health, including epidemiology and biostatistics. It also introduces the foundation of planning, implementing, and evaluating community-based health education models. Job opportunities may be found in the health departments, public health agencies, HMO’s, and other health-related agencies. | |
