Professor Kathleen Finnegan received her B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Stony Brook University and her M.S. in Medical Biology from C.W. Post College, Greenvale, NY. She is an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board certified medical technologist with specialist certification in hematology.
Prior to coming to Stony Brook University, Professor Finnegan was a medical technologist practicing at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY, where she gained 14 years of clinical experience in the department of hematology. Currently, she practices per diem as a clinical laboratory scientist with the Stony Brook University Hospital, Department of Hematology.
Professor Finnegan’s teaching responsibilities include hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, body fluids, and phlebotomy. In addition, she is the program director for the Patient Services Training Certificate Program. She is an invited speaker for national conferences and workshops for laboratory professionals for ASCP. She chairs the Workshops for Laboratory Professionals committee, sits on the Board of Registry Examination Board, is an active member of the Stony Brook University Alumni Board, and is an active member of the governing societies for clinical laboratory science. She has published as a contributor of textbook chapters, and she has authored journal articles.
