Stony Brook's Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program offers three areas of additional specialization within the traditional clinical laboratory curriculum. Students can select any one of the following:
- Laboratory Information Systems
- Cytogenetics
Internship
Real on-the-job experiences are an integral part of the clinical laboratory sciences concentrations. As such, they will be provided in a variety of settings to afford students the opportunity to test their skills in a real-world laboratory setting. Internships benefit students as a networking resource, a prospective employer, and a referral base for the job search upon graduation. The clinical internship will be offered in the summer session following the senior year.
Completion of the prescribed course of study provides graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain a competitive edge in obtaining an entry level job. In order to be eligible for admission to an expansion tract, students must meet all the prerequisites for the Clinical Laboratory Sciences degree and the applicable requirements associated with the individual tracks. It is important to note that some classes may be offered in the late afternoon or early evening and that the clinical internship is offered in the summer session following the senior year.
Upon the successful completion of all coursework, including the integral internship, students will receive their baccalaureate degrees, along with the School of Health Technology and Management's Certificate of Professional Achievement in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and a Certificate of Completion of the designated concentration.
