Forensic Diagnostics


This specialization emphasizes the interpretation of forensic and clinical diagnostic data in diverse areas such as toxicology, pharmacology, and molecular biology. Frequently, the forensic scientist is called upon to render an opinion in a court of law to assist litigation in either criminal or civil matters.

Students who complete the coursework in this track and a forensic molecular biology internship will be eligible to apply for Affiliated Status of the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC).

Additional Prerequisites:

  • Chemistry (one additional credit for a total 13 credits)
  • Genetics course for science majors (strongly recommended)

Coursework includes:

  • Seminar in forensic biology, topics in toxicology, clinical internship

Career paths:

  • Individuals can be involved in toxicology analysis in a medical examiner's office, DNA or molecular biology testing in crime laboratories, or genetic testing in medical diagnostic laboratories.
