A native of NYC (the Bronx) and of Puerto Rican decent, Dr. Sepulveda has been involved with health care, education and public service since 1979. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University, a Master’s in Human Resource Management from the Graduate School of Management and Urban Professions, at the New School for Social Research, a Doctorate degree in Medicine from Stony Brook University Medical School, and a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University. Along with completing a Family Practice residency (and serving as a chief resident), he completed a second residency in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Sepulveda finished a 2004-2005 Kellogg Fellowship for Higher Education through an alliance partnership of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)/ Kellogg Minority Serving Institute (MSI) Leadership Development Program. He is now utilizing this training at Suffolk Community College at the Grant Campus as Campus Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Sepulveda continues his advocacy role on Long Island with the development of cultural and linguistic curricula for targeted populations on Long Island; development of initiatives that empower students and communities to learn leadership skills for their communities; and assist with partnership building, assessments, and advocacy to create needed change in health care and higher education.
At Stony Brook University he remains an adjunct faculty advisor to undergraduate and graduate students, teaches administrative medicine in the Preventive Medicine Residency program at the School of Medicine, and is adjunct faculty for the graduate Health Care Policy and Management program at the School of Health Technology and Management.
Among the honors and awards received Dr. Sepulveda has been recognized by the American Academy of Family Physicians State of New York, The New York State Medical Society, Stony Brook University Hospital Department of Preventive Medicine at Stony Brook, Adelante Hispanic Association as the 38th Annual Puerto Rican – Hispanic Day Parade Honoree (“Honoring Positive Influences in the Hispanic Community”), Senate certificates for outstanding achievement, Suffolk County Executive certificates of appreciation, and Telecare (“Long Island Latin Leader of Long Island”). For work with youths he holds accreditation awards from The National Learning for Life (a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America), mentor recognition awards from Project Excel and Long Island Head Start program.
On his off time he enjoys being a father and husband, motorcycles, kayaking and hiking, older car restoration projects, skiing and scuba diving.
