Health Care Policy Concentration


These are the concentrations that are available within the
Master's in Health Care Policy and Management

Students in this concentration are provided course work on crucial, timely health policies. Regular classes, group projects, and advanced seminars are used to help students acquire the ability to analyze and develop health policies. Policy areas include principles of managed care, health care and older people, public health policy, health policy and planning, food and nutrition policies, and occupational safety and health policies.

The Master of Science in Health Care Policy and Management is 36 credits

Required Core Courses - these five courses must be taken by every student - (15-18 credits)

Required Healthcare Policy Courses - these courses must be taken by policy students - (12 credits)

  • HAS 543 Health Policy
  • HAS 538 Health Economics and Public Policy
  • HAS 579 Advanced Health Policy
  • choose one:  HAS 545 Ethics and Health Care   OR   HAS 536 Health Law

Healthcare Policy Elective Courses (1 of the following - meet with advisor before choosing course)

  • HAS 534 Fundamentals of Healthcare Management
  • HAS 556 Foundations of Health Care Quality Management
  • HAS 564 Health Information and Communication Systems
  • HAS 5xx Nutrition Seminar
  • HAS 545 Ethics and Health Care (if not counted as a core policy requirement)
  • HAS 536 Health Law (if not counted as a core policy requirement)

 

  • Plus 2 additional approved Healthcare Policy electives
