Professor DeChello received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Quinnipiac College in 1985. She later received her Master of Science degree in Healthcare Management from Stony Brook University in 2004. She has practiced clinically in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, and acute care. She has practiced in specialty settings such as Hand Therapy and Work Hardening and holds a specialty certification in Ergonomics through the Board for Certification of Professional Ergonomists. Prof. DeChello was the Associate Director of Occupational Therapy at Stony Brook University Hospital for 8 years before coming to the University as a faculty member in1997.

Professor DeChello is responsible for teaching a number of courses including Kinesiology, Prosthetic & Orthotics, Work Programs, Adult Physical Dysfunction, and Acute Care. Additionally, she lectures to students in other programs within The School of Health Technology & Management on ergonomics and anatomy and physiology. Other responsibilities include mentoring students performing research projects in the areas of work injury prevention and adult physical disabilities, evaluating the work environments of faculty and staff throughout the Health Sciences Center to prevent work related injuries. Prof. DeChello is a member of the Educational Technology Committee and the Celebration/Awards Committee.
