Donna Crapanzano, MPH, RPAC

Clinical Assistant Professor
Department of Physician Assistant Education
Stony Brook University

After graduating from the Stony Brook PA program in 1992, Professor Donna Crapanzano began her career at Queens Hospital Center in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She continued to practice in Emergency Medicine but left QHC and moved closer to home, practicing at Southside Hospital and Central Suffolk Hospital with EMS Consultants. During this time, she recognized the need to further understand public health issues in the context of providing better health care. Consequently, she attended Columbia University and completed her master’s degree in Public Health in 1996. In 2001, Donna completed additional coursework and national certification as a Diabetic Educator.

After finishing her master’s degree, Donna began to work with a Family Medicine practice, expanding access to more comprehensive women’s health care and diabetic counseling. During this time she guest lectured at the Stony Brook PA program, and joined the faculty part- time from 1997 – 1999. Donna returned to clinical practice in 1999, but remained involved in our students’ education through lecturing and precepting students at her family medicine practice. In addition, she has been teaching in the BS-HS major in the SHTM since 2001. Through her involvement with a major pharmaceutical firm, Donna developed strong analytical skills and an understanding of the importance of research and evidence based medicine, which she recognized would be of value to our program.

Donna is married with one son, and a yellow Lab. During their free time they go to the beach, parks and take long walks.
