Physician Assistant Entry-Level Masters Program

Student Perspectives

Stony Brook University is well known for its exceptional high quality of standards. The program has been challenging and the courses really pushed you to the limit. I don’t think that there is anyone who can say that they didn’t grow as a person as a result of attending the program. I realize that by being a PA it will require an extraordinary amount of maturity and responsibility and this program has really helped me prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.
The class is pretty small and it is very hard not to look at your fellow students as a family. The support I have received from my fellow classmates has been wonderful as many individuals go out of their way to help one another. Looking back on the year, I can say that the experience has been priceless!

I worked at Winthrop Hospital for about four years and I heard over and over again from doctors, nurses, and other PAs that Stony Brook was the best PA Program in the state, if not one of the best in the country. It was a "no-brainer."
This year I’ve meet students from several other programs and it is very clear that SB students are extremely well prepared. You may never work harder in your life. The mental toughness that it takes and the confidence you gain by "getting through it," can only make you a better person.

As a resident of Long Island, I’ve always been aware of Stony Brook’s excellent reputation for health care education. They’re known not only for their research, but also for graduating talented and well prepared clinicians.
I don’t think I could’ve been taught anything else this year. Clinical rotations start in a few weeks, and although this time can be a little intimidating, I know I’ve been given the tools I need to be successful.
I’ve learned more this year than I think I ever have, both academically and personally. I really thought there would be no room left for anything other than the medicine that’s crammed in, but oddly enough, there has been. Most importantly, this year has really helped me appreciate this field, and it has made me even more excited to become part of it.

Stony Brook has a long standing reputation for outstanding medical education and offered opportunities that other programs did not. After being an EMT for almost 10 years, I wanted to further my medical knowledge and experience to provide more help for those in need.
The noncompetitive classroom environment provided a great atmosphere for students helping other students in various subject areas. The faculty and students were always willing to give 150% to help other students get through difficult material.
The gross anatomy course that we took our first year was phenomenal! We had full cadaver dissection which made learning the material exciting and more tangible. The Physiology/Basic science departments were thorough and always available for additional questions.
