Welcome to the website for the Stony Brook University Physician Assistant Post-Professional Masters Program at the School of Health Technology and Management. The Department of Physician Assistant Education at Stony Brook University currently offers affordable, high quality, entry-level, graduate PA education since 1971. The post-professional graduate PA program has been in existence since 2007. After careful consideration, the university has elected to offer the post-professional program to nationally certified physician assistants. Our post-professional PA program is designed for practicing physician assistants who want to obtain their masters degree while enhancing their clinical knowledge and developing skills in administration, management, education and research.
The program is affordable and responsive to the needs of graduate physician assistants. Small class sizes offered at different times and in a variety of settings allow students the flexibility to continue to work while advancing their education. Initially, courses will be offered at the Stony Brook Campus on Long Island. Courses were phased in at the Stony Brook Manhattan location since fall 2007. The program is structured to permit students to complete their masters degree within 15-18 months, should they choose to do so. As of 2010, a distance learning format will predominate; this will permit students who are not geographically local to the Stony Brook University campus facilities to matriculate toward the same masters degree in Physician Assistant Science.
Key goals of our post-professional program are to increase PA marketability and visibility and to enhance the knowledge and skills that our colleagues will apply in their work settings and communities. Our ultimate goal is consistent with our entry-level PA masters program and the Stony Brook tradition. That is, of course, to provide high quality, accessible and cost-effective patient care services.
We hope that you will choose to become a part of the Stony Brook tradition. Please browse our web pages and contact us should you require additional information regarding the curriculum. If you decide the Stony Brook post-professional program is right for you, feel free to start your application process today.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
