The Clinical Laboratory Science program at Stony Brook University is definitely unique. The program is nationally accredited, the faculty is current in clinical laboratory practice, and both the students and faculty are very active in professional societies. Personally, what I find to be invaluable is that the program far surpasses the standard CLS curricula by offering full courses in Medical Molecular Genetics, Health Care Management, and Research Literacy/Design. In addition to this, specialized tracks including Forensic Medical Diagnostics, Diagnostic Instrumentation, and Laboratory Information Systems are also available to interested students. The CLS program certainly opens so many doors of opportunity!
As I began my junior year of college I was very excited to learn about the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program at Stony Brook University. When I was accepted into the CLS program, I began anticipating the lab techniques and instruments I would be working with and the new and interesting things I would be learning from the faculty. CLS is one of the best set of courses I have ever taken. The professors really care and want you to succeed as a student and as a practicing clinical laboratory scientist. I am proud to say I will graduate from the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program and will be helping to save lives as a practicing health care professional.
The Clinical Laboratory Sciences program is one of the profound programs at Stony Brook University. The program is challenging yet rewarding in that the lecture material is applied immediately in student laboratories and then refined during clinical practicum courses conducted at affiliate laboratories throughout New York City and Long Island. The best parts are the opportunities to work in different types of laboratories and the many career options an education in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences offers. I also enjoy learning and interacting with other students and faculty in other health care professions, and I have gained a better appreciation for health care field.
