Health Care Policy & Management
Program Description

The School of Health Technology and Management, which is in the Health Sciences Center, offers the Master of Science in Health Care Policy and Management. This graduate program is designed to improve the professional competence of qualified health professionals seeking careers in management, nutrition, gerontology, and health policy. The management option also offers a sub-specialty in sales and marketing for the clinical laboratory environment. The curriculum is planned for practicing professionals with multiple backgrounds, interests, and needs.

Students design a program tailored to their career goals in consultation with faculty advisors. After selection of a concentration and completion of core requirements in health care delivery, communication and group dynamics, statistics, and research methodology, students must complete at least 12 credits in one of four concentrations and a practicum of 3 to 6 credits.

There is a 36-credit minimum for obtaining the M.S. degree. As health care needs and services change at the regional and national levels, health professionals must be prepared to meet these challenges. The Master of Science in Health Care Policy and Management provides the knowledge and skills needed to address the health care needs of multiple and diverse populations in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, private practices, health agencies, not-for-profit organizations, county health departments, commercial laboratories, and ambulatory care centers.

The program is open to professionals working in the health care field who are seeking to enhance their existing careers or to pursue new avenues in health care management, health policy, sales and marketing, gerontology, and nutrition.
