Professor Giarrusso received
his Bachelors Degree as a physician assistant from Touro College in 1982.
He has worked in emergency medicine since graduation at two of the largest
Level 1 trauma centers on Long Island-North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset
and University Hospital at Stony Brook. He has helped to educate emergency
medicine residents at both institutions and was a preceptor for physician
assistant students rotating through emergency medicine at University Hospital.
After 14 years in clinical practice, Ed resigned from the emergency department
at University Hospital and joined our faculty as a clinical assistant professor.
In August 2001 he received his Master’s Degree from the University
of Nebraska in Physician Assistant Studies with a specialization in Emergency
Medicine. He currently works per diem in the Emergency Department at North
Shore/LIJ Health System at Huntington Hospital.
Professor Giarrusso is responsible for the EKG, Pulmonary, and Genitourinary
units of clinical medicine, as well as teaching in several other units.
He coordinates history and physical pairings and ACLS instruction. Ed has
primary responsibility for pediatric preceptorships. He is co-advisor to
the program student society and Chair of the School of Health Technology
and Management Curriculum Committee.
Edward has coauthored several publications in the Annals
of Emergency Medicine and American Journal of Emergency Medicine,
based on research completed during the time he worked in the Emergency
Department at University Hospital.
During his free time Ed keeps busy with his children’s extra curricula
activities. He enjoys vacationing on warm tropical islands and is a season’s
ticket holder for the NY Rangers hockey team.
