Dr. DeTurk received his BA from Duke University with a major in English Literature, a BS from SUNY Downstate in Physical Therapy, an MA from New York University in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, and a PhD from New York University in Pathokinesiology. He has extensive clinical experience in the provision of physical therapy services in hospital and home care settings with specialty practice in acute care and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. He is currently providing clinical services to the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Northport, NY.

Dr. DeTurk teaches within the Stony Brook Entry-Level Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program in the areas of Acute Care, Exercise Physiology, Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, and Case Studies II with a focus on acute care practice. Dr. DeTurk is a member of the editorial board of the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal. In addition, he serves as president of the School of Health Technology and Management Faculty Assembly.

Dr. DeTurk co-authored Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy: An Evidence-Based Approach, a textbook published by McGraw-Hill, now undergoing its second edition.
