Entry-Level Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program


Admission Requirements



ACADEMIC PREREQUISITES:

All applicants must meet the following requirements for admission:

  • Baccalaureate degree (no preferred major required)
  • 27 credits of natural sciences for science majors. The following courses must include laboratory segments (except where noted) and have been completed within the last ten years:
    • 8 credits of Biology
    • 8 credits of Chemistry
    • 8 credits of Physics
    • 3 credits of 300-level Physiology (lab not required)
      OR
    • 8 credits of Anatomy and Physiology (labs required)
  • 9 credits of Arts and Humanities
  • 9 credits of Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • 3 credits of English composition or expository writing
  • 3 credits of Statistics

ARTS AND HUMANITIES courses include music, art, literature, language (intermediate level or above), philosophy, ethics, logic, religion, and theater study. Performance courses are not accepted (chorus, ballet, ceramics, photography, or acting).

SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE courses include psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, and history.

PREFERENCE is given to applicants with a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum natural science grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

PREFERENCE is given to applicants who have completed science requirements within the last ten years and to applicants who have completed 21 of the 27 credits in biology, chemistry, and physics at the time of application.


HEALTH RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid.
  • 100 hours of volunteer or work experience with a physical therapist. Multiple sites are preferred. Verification of hours are must be on an official letterhead.

OTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The general exam includes verbal, quantitative and analytical testing. Information about this test is available online at www.gre.org.
  • All applicants whose native or first language is not English must also score at least 550 paper-based or 213 computer-based on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) within two years prior to admission.
  • Three references; at least one of these references must be from an observance of a licensed Physical Therapist.
