Mission of the Post-Professional t-DPT Program
The mission of all academic programs in physical therapy is to serve the educational needs of the profession and to address the public's need for high quality physical therapy services. To assist clinicians in enhancing their current skills to meet the continually growing demands of practice, Stony Brook University has established its Post-Professional (Transition) Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program.
The mission of the Post-Professional t-DPT program is to provide opportunities for clinicians to enhance clinical mastery through the use of the patient/client management model, evidence based practice and consensus based clinical practice patterns to meet the needs of patients in a manner that promises the benefits of high quality care with optimal efficiency and effectiveness.
Philosophy of the Post-Professional t-DPT Program
The philosophy of the Post-Professional (Transition) DPT is that by providing clinicians with the theoretical underpinnings of current practice, each will be able to individually apply theory to practice, enhancing his/her own clinical decision making skills. Clinicians are continually challenged to convert medical findings into answerable questions, then develop hypotheses, search for alternative explanations and actively and efficiently seek the best evidence from which to draw conclusions regarding practice. Clinicians are required to critically appraise the evidence and its application to examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment interventions for quality patient care.
