The School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook is located on the North
shore of Long Island, 60 miles east of New York City. The Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME)
was established shortly after the opening of the Medical School and since 1979 has been fully accredited
by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education as a sponsor of CME. The Medical School has
over 500 faculty members representing all specialties of medicine who are available to teach within our
active CME program.
The Office of Continuing Medical Education offers a broad spectrum of CME activities addressing a variety
of medical topics and utilizing varied instructional methods. These include programs designed to: teach
new skills using workshops, simulated patients or live-case presentations; update physicians with new
information to improve prevention, diagnosis and management of diseases; and provide a comprehensive
update and intensive review in a field of medicine. Teleconferencing, monographs, web-based and other
self-directed learning methods are also available.
