Course Evaluations

Cardiovascular System Segment (Dr. Mallis)            Evaluators: Dr’s. Cohen and Chen
A recommendation was made for a committee to be formed to define the competencies.  Members would include the Course Director, the evaluators and the Curriculum Committee.
Medicine Clerkship (Dr. Tompkins)          Evaluators: Dr’s. Perlmutter and Tsirka
Recommendations:

  1. Lessen the heavy service demands on faculty.
  2. There is a need for more dermatology training
  3. Increased Faculty development for teaching. There is a need for a formal program to train the residents to teach.
  4. More clinical opportunities for Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
  5. A better system to teach clinical procedures, e.g. changing IV’s, infusion pumps, etc.
  6. Mid course evaluation and discussion was also recommended.

Course overall is excellent.  There was uniformity in Shelf Exams so all sites are doing a good job.

Motion was made by Dr. Steigbigel to create a cap of the team size of attendings and get a non teaching team of hospitalists and NP’s to be hired for the medical service.  Seconded by Dr. Miller

Faculty Development

Old Business

New Business

A motion was made to recommend reappointment of Dr. Tompkins as Course Director.
A new course Director for the Cardiology System segment needs to be discussed.

Clerkship grades on MSPE do not reflect difficulties or low ranking in class. The recommendation from the Clinical Course Directors committee is to reflect accurately the grade including the incomplete. After discussion it was decided that the students to highlight are the repeat offenders.????

The motion to recommend reappointment of Dr. Tompkins passed.

The Cardiology System segment director will be added to the April agenda.
