Course
Evaluations |
MCS 2 - Michael Vetrano, Course Director
Evaluators - Andrew Francis, MD & Anthony Pesce, MD
Questions that arose as to this course:
1. Should the course be made smaller
2. Should coverage be expanded to include other subjects, e.g. medical economics?
3. Should MCS 2 be reviewed singly or along with the entire 4 year curriculum?
Dr. Steigbiegel hoped the fundamental issues of this course and the differences expressed would be dealt with at the retreat.
Neurology - Patricia Coyle, MD (Acting Chair)
Evaluators – Krishnamurthy Suresh, MD & David Cooling, MD
There was some discussion as to when the clerkship should be offered - 3rd vs. 4th year. It is currently an available as an elective in the third year. Drs.Pourmand and Coyle thought it should be required in 3rd year. Pat Coyle brought to the groups attention that SUNYSB is in the minority of not requiring Neurology to be taken in the 3rd year.
This opened a discussion of the order of Clerkships and Sub I’s and which prerequisites should be required for which courses.
|
Dr. O’Riordan made a motion to the chair to appoint a committee to review all four years at one time. Committee would include more clinicians. Dr. Jaffe seconded the motion and amended it to stipulate it would be done after retreat. The amended motion passed.

1. Examination policies
Jennifer Ripton wanted clarification on the proposal that the passing grade for Subject Exams in clerkships change from the 15 percentile to 7 percentile.. The change would mean both that SUSB passing threshold would be coincident with the MBME and, by resulting in fewer shelf exam failures, that scheduling problems that arise from failures would be diminished. There was concern about Stony Brook “lowering the bar” of our exam standards so more could pass. |
