Faculty Development

Dr. Schechter reviewed the conference he attended in Savannah, Georgia “Strategies to motivate learners”.  Issues discussed were:

  • Repetition and memorization as opposed to knowledge
  • Active learning
  • Team teaching
  • Rubric-Set expectation in scoring methods
Dr. Mylona will present an example of different models of Team Based Learning for this committee in the future. .

Old Business

Dr. Miller opened a discussion on students evaluating Course Directors.  The 3 levels of evaluation are

  • Mandatory-designed by the Dean
  • Voluntary - handed out at each lecture or already in Cbase for each class
  • Course Director can create the evaluation themselves on line.
Assessment of Block Teaching in Year 1 was tabled because of Dr. Fleit’s absence.
A motion was passed to ask IT to come up with a mandatory evaluation in C-base.  Dr. Eisenberg will begin work on that.

New Business

Appointment of Cara Harth, MD to 2nd year Neurology Course

A cross section of students from different colleges will be asked about the differences in college culture and SOM culture.

Approved, all in favor
