PATIENT CARE
MEDICAL DERMATOLOGY
Medical Dermatology entails the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin including eczemas, rashes, hives, psoriasis, acne, skin infections, blistering conditions and hair loss. Specific interests of the department include acne, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, drug eruptions, psoriasis and immunological blistering diseases (Pemphigus, Pemphigoid).
CUTANEOUS ALLERGY
Cutaneous allergy includes diagnosis and treatment of allergic reactions of the skin as well as atopic dermatitis. Cutaneous allergies are diagnosed by patch and prick testing. The department has most complete patch testing clinic on Long Island as well as a prick testing service supervised by Dr. Richard Clark, who has Boards in Allergy Immunology as well as Dermatology. The patch test clinic is supervised by Dr. Richard Kalish whose credentials include a PhD in Immunology.
PEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY
The Pediatric Dermatology service is directed by Dr. Leonard Kristal who is a widely published and nationally recognized expert. The practice includes atopic dermatitis, acne, hemangiomas, genetic and congenital skin disorders.
DERMATOLOGIC ONCOLOGY
Skin cancer evaluation, diagnosis and treatment are a central part of the dermatology service, to which all faculty members devote much of their effort. Multiple treatment options are available including Mohs micrographic surgery. Melanoma is addressed by a multidisciplinary group that includes Dermatology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Pathology.
MOHS MICROGRAPHIC SURGERY
This is the preferred treatment of many cancers of the face. What makes Mohs surgery unique is the surgeon maps out the cancer with the aid of microscopic examination in between stages of the surgery. Thus at the completion of the procedure, the surgeon can confirm removal of all skin cancer. The Mohs surgery unit is directed by Dr. Evan Jones, who has completed specialized training for this procedure as well as Dermatologic Surgery.
COSMETIC PROCEDURES
Cosmetic procedures performed in the Department include minor cosmetic surgery, BoTox and fillers. Dr. Evan Jones has completed extensive training in dermatologic surgery including cosmetic procedures. Dr. Tara Kaufmann also has an active practice with BoTox and fillers.
PHOTOTHERAPY
The department has a state of the art narrow band UVB / UVA phototherapy box for the treatment of psoriasis, vitiligo, chronic itching, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and certain other skin diseases. Dr. Marcia Tonnesen directs the phototherapy service. She has a special interest in phototherapy along with many years of experience.
