Dr Garra joined the faculty in 2000. He serves as Residency Program Director and Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. In addition to maintaining an active clinical and administrative role in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr Garra is the Medical Record Committee Chair and member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee for Stony Brook University Hospital.
Dr Garra maintains an active academic and research career. He is a regular columnist for the Empire State Emergency Physician Interim Communique. He provides various lectures and skill workshops for medical student, pediatric and emergency medicine residents. Dr Garra assisted in the development and implementation of medical simulation for the Stony Brook School of Medicine. Dr Garra’s research interests are focused on pediatric abdominal pain and diagnostic imaging, medical student education and outcomes assessment of residency training.
Dr Garra also participates in emergency medicine activities on a state and national level. He is a member of the Board of Directors and Councilor for the New York Chapter of the American College of Emergency Medicine. Dr Garra also serves on multiple committees for the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine and Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD). |
