Dr Khwaja was elected Suffolk County's EMS Physician of the Year for 2003.  She has been the Medical Director for the Stony Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corp for the past several years as well as teaching CME for the EMS workers of that Corps.  She is co-investigating a newly designed computer program to help detect medical error in the ED and successfully received a grant for that research investigation.
