Frequently Asked Questions
What are your eligibility requirements for applying to the program?
All applicants must meet the following criteria for a PGY1 position:
A graduate of a United States or Canadian Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited medical school, OR
A graduate of an American or Canadian Osteopathic Association accredited medical school OR
A graduate of a medical school outside of the United States must be ECFMG certified OR
A graduate of a medical school outside the United States who has successfully completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.
US Citizen or Permanent Resident: Visa’s are not sponsored
The date of your graduation cannot exceed 5 years prior to the academic year you would be starting the program
How do I apply?
All applications for PGY1 positions must apply though ERAS. Our program participates in the National Resident matching Program (NRMP). Those interested in a PGY2 position should contact the residency directly at (631) 444-3917
Do you accept applicants outside the Match?
No – we do not accept applicants outside the Match.
Can I send a paper application?
All applicants must apply through the ERAS system.
What is the deadline for applications?
Our deadline for applications is December 15th
How many positions do you have?
Seven
Will I have a chance to Teach?
Yes, our department provides educational experiences to medical students at all levels of training, including teaching second and third year students the basics of taking a history and performing a physical examination. You also have the opportunity to work with medical students in our office and on the inpatient services, which helps you hone your own clinical skills.
Do you offer Observerships/Externships?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer these to applicants because of our commitments to teaching the medical students at SUNY Stony Brook
