Informal and Formal Didactic sessions are provided throughout the year. Below is a list of the settings in which formal didactic sessions are scheduled.
Long Island Geriatric Education Center (LIGEC): The LIGEC provides multiple lectures, seminars and conferences throughout the year. It covers a wide array of topics to help address the healthcare needs of an aging population. In addition, the fellows have access to the LIGEC Resource Center which contains an assortment of texts, CD ROMS, DVDs, taped conferences, and published literature.
Stony Brook Primary Care Lecture Series: On the first Wednesday of every month, topics focus on primary care issues in the elderly.
Journal Club: On the second Wednesday of each month, a geriatric fellow will use an evidence based approach to review current articles on important Geriatric topics.
Practice Based Lecture Series: On the second Tuesday of each month, fellows will present or attend an interdisciplinary lecture series at the LISVH.
Research Lecture Series: On the third Wednesday of each month, fellows will attend lectures on current research topics at the Northport VA.
Grand Rounds: Every Wednesday at the University Hospital. Wide array of Topics including Basic Science lectures, Bioethical, and Clinical practice management.
M& M: Each fellow is required to present two cases from their inpatient hospital experience at a morbidity and mortality conference. They are expected to present pathological, radiological and laboratory data in addition to invite specialists involved in the case.
