The goal of the Postdoctoral Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the State University of New York at Stony Brook is to
train physicians to become outstanding clinicians and to understand and perform high-quality investigation in infectious
diseases. To achieve that goal, persons who have completed residencies in internal medicine are provided with subspecialty
training that is divided between instruction in clinical infectious diseases and research. The fellowship includes training
in all clinical aspects of infectious diseases, diagnostic microbiology (bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology),
hospital programs that interact with infectious diseases, e.g., infection control and hospital pharmacy, and clinical and
basic laboratory research. All successful participants in the program will be qualified for the subspecialty examination
in Infectious Diseases administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine. |
