WELCOME

Welcome to the website of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine of Stony Brook University Medical Center, the only hospital in Suffolk County, New York designated a tertiary care facility. We invite you to browse our website to learn more about our Faculty, our Patient Care Services, our Fellowship Program, and our Research activities.

Our Division was founded in 1974 with the establishment of the fourth medical school of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Our deep involvement with and commitment to the education of future physicians enhances our ability to provide high-quality, up-to-date clinical services to our patients.

Our Faculty includes twelve full-time Attending Physicians. In addition to providing general pulmonary health care services at our Ambulatory Care Office located at 26 Research Way in East Setauket, we also have specialty practices in the diagnosis and management of lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep disorders. Our physicians are trained as specialists in Critical Care Medicine and are responsible for the primary care of patients in the Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Intensive Care Unit. They also provide pulmonary and critical care consultative service throughout the hospital.

We are especially proud of our three-year Fellowship Program with training sites at both Stony Brook University Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Northport. All Fellows have the opportunity to spend a full year of their training engaged in research. There is a wide range of research opportunities available both within the Division or with other Medical School or University Faculty. Our Faculty are actively engaged in research programs, including projects aimed at understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease processes within the lung; developing and optimizing aerosolized drug-delivery systems; and clinical outcomes studies.
