This is a 5 year combined program. Trainees are prepared for both the Boards in Neurology and the Boards
in Internal Medicine. It takes one year longer than the traditional training is straight Neurology. Stony Brook has several specific
requirements for applicants to this combined program.
- Applicants must do their PGY-1 year in Medicine at Stony Brook.
- Applicants must be interviewed by both the Neurology and Internal Medicine programs at Stony Brook.
Trainees spend their PGY-1 year in Medicine. After that they rotate between Medicine and Neurology spending no more than 6 and no less
than 3 months in each service.

The Internal Medicine/Neurology Combined Residency Training Program participates in the National
Resident Matching Program (NRMP) The Application must be submitted through the Electronic
Residency Application System (ERAS).
