Fidelis Care New York (FCNY) is a non-profit Medicaid-based managed care organization whose central office is based in New York. They represent about 130,000 members throughout the State of New York. They were formed in 1997 and are run directly by the 8 Archdioceses of NY State. It is a unique site with numerous areas for the development of projects related to the managed care industry. The Quality Assurance section assesses the quality of the care that FCNY is providing to its members. Various quality measures are used, including visit compliance rates, activity and test compliance rates, etc. All of these statistics are readily available in the FCNY network system for the entire state, and there is a full team of data analysts available for statistical analysis. The work of this group falls under the purview of the Medical Director for Clinical Services and the Chief Medical Officer. Both of these positions are filled by physicians with backgrounds in public health and/or preventive medicine, and the Medical Director serves as the site Supervisor-of-Training for preventive medicine residents. FCNY has multiple Health Management and Disease Management programs that relate to specific chronic diseases, with diabetes and asthma the 2 current focuses. These programs offer a fund of data and opportunities for residents to get involved with preventive medicine/public health-related topics for research and development.
