Giving to Stony Brook

A big part of our success in providing financial assistance to our students and continuing education to our faculty is through the support that we receive from our donors.  The funds that are available in the School of Social Welfare where your donation will truly make a difference are listed below for your consideration.

Elsie Owens Memorial Scholarship Fund
To provide a scholarship at the graduate level to a student in the School of Social Welfare, who demonstrates a history of overcoming one or more major life obstacles or personal hardships, has demonstrated their skills as a leader and organizer who will also give priority to the family, is a grassroots organizer or community advocate for the poor and disadvantaged in regard to social services, police, healthcare, civil rights, utilities and/or levels of government.

Jarelyn Lopez Scholarship Fund
To provide an annual scholarship to a School of Social Welfare student.  Must be a full-time undergraduate student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.  Special preference will be given to a female minority student who is an active community service leader.

To make a donation to one or more of these very worthy funds you can make checks payable to the Stony Brook Foundation and send it to: Stony Brook Foundation Suite 230 Stony Brook, NY 11790-4455.  Indicate the name of the fund and ID number in the memo section of your check. Or, make a gift on-line at https://naples.cc.sunysb.edu/DoIT/giving2sb.nsf/fund.  To assist you with the process follow these steps:

  1. Choose Your Giving Level and total gift amount,
  2. Choose Where You'd Like Your Gift to Go-If you want to make a gift to a School of Social Welfare fund click on School or College or Program.  Include the fund name and number as listed above,
  3. This Transaction: Click on a gift, to satisfy a pledge or a new pledge,
  4. Complete the remaining information, as requested, to process your donation.
